چکیده
Background and Objective Genderand age-specific differences in melanoma incidence are poorly defined in the literature. The purpose of this study was to evaluate such gender-and age-related differences in melanoma incidence rates using large population-based U.S. datasets. Methods Data for this study were obtained from three cancer registries: the Cancer Surveillance Program of Orange County/San Diego Imperial Organization for Cancer Control, a regional cancer registry located at the University of California, Irvine; the California Cancer Registry, comprising all regional cancer registries in the state; and the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program, which collects cancer data on 14% of the U.S. population. The former two

OBJECTIVE Despite clear gender differences in the symptoms and course of bipolar affective disorder, studies investigating age at onset by gender have yielded inconsistent results. The authors investigated gender differences in age at onset and incidence of first-episode mania and bipolar disorder in an epidemiological catchment area in southeast London over a 35-year period. METHOD All adult...
متن کاملSeasonal variation in cutaneous melanoma incidence: link with recent UV exposure. A Belgian population-based study
Our objective was to test the hypothesis of a short-term late-promoting effect of UV exposure on the development of cutaneous melanoma as explanation for the summer peak in melanoma incidence. Therefore, we studied seasonal variation in melanoma incidence in relation to recent UV exposure using direct UV measurements. Data from the Belgian Cancer Registry on invasive cutaneous melanoma diagnose...
متن کاملIncidence of Childhood and Adolescent Melanoma in the United States: 1973–2009 WHAT’S KNOWN ON THIS SUBJECT: The incidence of childhood and adolescent melanoma
OBJECTIVE: Childhood and adolescent melanoma is rare but has been increasing. To gain insight into possible reasons underlying this observation, we analyzed trends in melanoma incidence diagnosed between the ages of 0 and 19 years among US whites by gender, stage, age at diagnosis, and primary site. We also investigated incidence trends by UV-B exposure levels. METHODS: By using Surveillance, E...
متن کاملMalignant skin melanoma in Croatia.
Global heating and increased solar ultraviolet irradiance have caused an increase in number of many diseases, particularly skin malignant diseases. Aim of this study was to investigate the influence of climate changes on the health of the population of the Primorsko-goranska and Istria Counties. We gathered and analyzed data about the frequency of skin malignant melanoma in the period of eight ...
